Our passion for the mountains brought us together for a weekend in Chamonix. In the face of nature, we remain human beings, and nature has put us to the test.
On Wednesday, the Trace des Grands safety committee, in coordination with the first-aid team, decided to open the fallback course (course B) for the TDG 65 and 65 Duo. The TDG 110 route has been maintained at 80% by eliminating the summit section after a daily analysis of French weather data.
On Saturday, the 1050m ascent of the TDG 110 provided participants with a particularly intense experience. The calm, sunny start suggested a beautiful day in the mountains, before the Foehn wind picked up, confirming the wise decision taken by the organizers to block the summit section. This day will remain in the memories of the participants and made them true mountaineers. It also taught the importance of decision-making and the experience needed to travel safely in a natural environment that is as beautiful as it can be dangerous.
For Sunday, despite the considerable efforts made by the Compagnie du Mont-Blanc professionals, the ESF, Evolution2, CRS mountain teams and our plotters, the weather evolution and the night’s storm dictated the wisest of decisions and the opening of the C course: a vertical race on the Pierre Ă Ric piste. The hardest part was not taking the only responsible decision to open the C course, but announcing to our 425 participants that they were being deprived of their dream of a mythical and committed high-mountain route.
That didn’t dampen their enthusiasm and support. We felt the mountain spirit vibrating, the spirit of a great roped party. There was a lot of emotion at the finish.
We’d like to thank all our volunteers, our partners, our exhibitors and all the visitors who came to cheer on our participants.
